Departament of Electrica Engineering

The Department of Electrical Engineering of the Universidad de Chile has its origins in the late 50’s, when the Faculty of Physical and Mathematical Sciences founded, together with ENDESA, the Institute of Electrical Research and Testing (IIEE). In 1957, it consisted of the High Voltage Laboratory, the Electrical Engineering Laboratory and the Electronics and Telecommunications Laboratory. Three years later, the Computer and Automatic Control Laboratory was added.

In 1965 IIEE became the Department of Electricity and in 1981, it took its present name and structure.

The mission of our Department is to train professionals for the traditional specialties of Communications, Energy and Automation, as well as for the emerging areas of Electrical Engineering. Currently, the training plan offers specialization in Communications, Control, Electronics, Energy, Instrumentation, Intelligent Systems and Information Technologies.
